A peaceful protest will take place in Skegness this weekend over migrant accommodation in the town. Protestors will gather at Skegness Train Station shortly before 1pm on Sunday, 29 March before proceeding to walk to their destination, anticipated to be The County Hotel. Lincolnshire Police and our partners have worked alongside the protest organiser to help ensure this event is a peaceful one and causes as little disruption as possible. Our role is to facilitate those who wish to exercise their right to protest and express their views in a peaceful and legal manner and we would encourage members of the community to allow others to use their voice. However, we will not tolerate disorder, hatred or violence on our streets and will not hesitate to step in and act if necessary. A counter-protest is also set to take place, and we would extend the same sentiments to those who wish to take part. Road users may see some disruption on Lumley Road, Grand Parade, and North Parade and it is likely to be busier than normal in and around the town on Sunday. It is not clear how many people will attend at this stage. We acknowledge that the matters prompting this protest are significant and can evoke strong emotions. We ask all involved to remain respectful of one another. | ||
